Honor the late Senator Lautenberg and move on safer chemical legislation (green mama action needed!)

Dear Senator Lautenberg,

While others fought and gave more rights to corporations (more rights than people have, some would argue), you introduced the Safe Chemicals Act again and again.

Each year, you sent out press releases about the dangers of chemicals in everyday products, and how this could be reversed by passing the Safe Chemicals Act. You explained how 80,000 chemicals in products today have never been tested for safety, and many have been linked to cancers, reproductive problems, early puberty, obesity, and learning difficulties.
And each year, it went no where. Because we have a Congress that isn’t acting to protect public health.  Even after mass shootings in elementary schools. Even after more and more children are exposed to lead, mercury, pesticides, BPA, phthalates, toxic flame retardants, and other toxic chemicals. They won’t stand up to big business and mega-corporations because those are the groups funding their campaigns and the ones lobbying with big bucks.
Until this year, when a compromise bill was struck. It was far from perfect. It gave many perks to industry, too many in exchange for public health, but it was a step toward protecting our families from chemicals for the first time in 30 years.
Thank you for your leadership on this issue. We will remember you forever for it. Now it is up to us. Readers, please encourage your senators to take up the Chemical Safety Improvement Act. Make it stronger to include the original provisions in Senator Lautenberg’s Safe Chemicals Act.
In honor of his work. In honor of protecting the public health. In honor of standing up to corporations who for years have been adding dangerous chemicals to products and making gobs of money while paying lobbyists to keep chemical reform off the to-do list of Congress.
Don’t let our hopes at protecting families from toxic chemicals pass away with Senator Lautenberg. I’m contacting my senators to strengthen this bill and move on keeping families safe from chemicals in our everyday products. Will you join me?

Please let me know in the comments if you took action!
