Giving Tuesday: 4 Gifts with Meaning

IMG_1803

It’s Giving Tuesday and I love this new idea. After all the commercials, torrent of emails, signs, and reports of holiday sales, it is refreshing to see a focus on giving. Here are some of my ideas for giving gifts to your loved ones that helps others and makes the world  a better place.  Did you give today? I’d love to hear your ideas as well.

1. Adopt Wildlife with the World Wildlife Fund.

This is a beautiful way to connect your kids to the idea of giving and acting to save endangered and threatened animals. This year I ordered two animals I was lucky enough to see first hand in Tanzania, and ones that I know are facing rampant poaching and dwindling numbers.  There are many options at different pricing levels. I think this is something I will do every year.

My daughters will love the ID cards, the info booklet and of course the stuffed animal.

2.  Give a gift to support girls and women internationally. Give the gift of education, a healthy birth, a garden, a goat or a stove with International Rescue Committee. These gifts literally save lives. The key to economic security, stability and equality is the success of women and girls.  With a small gift you can literally change lives. This is so powerful!

3. Donate to organizations in the name of a loved one. Each of these organizations is working for a clean and toxin free world for everyone. Some of my favorites, doing amazing work include: Breast Cancer Fund, Center for Health and Justice, MomsRising, Moms Clean Air Force, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, Women’s Voices for the Earth, Environmental Working Group, Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families, and so many more!  These groups work tirelessly each and every day to make the world a safer, healthier place for our kids.

4. Impact an incredibly needy school directly. Hamomi is a school of orphaned children Nairobi, Kenya. Hamomi creates a safe and nurturing environment through which it offers comprehensive care to provide the widest array of opportunities possible. They have just purchased land and are beginning to develop plans and funding to build a school. I’ve been in direct contact with the director of this school and board members who are doing this incredible work in one of the poorest regions of the world. The students are incredible. I’ve been following their writing and work for sometime. See the website and look at the amazing students they have attending this school. You will be moved!

What are you ideas for Giving Tuesday?  I’d love to hear them.
